Shifting and gear analysis

See where, how often, and in which ratios you shifted.

What is recorded

When an NXS drivetrain is connected, BikeNet records the front and rear gear positions and each shift alongside the rest of the ride. The Shifting tab can then show total, front, and rear shifts; the gears used most by time and distance; average gear and ratio; and how much of the ride had a known gear.

This can help you understand how you actually used the drivetrain rather than relying on memory after the ride.

Gear-by-gear detail

Intervals are divided by gear so you can compare time, distance, speed, cadence, power, shift count, tooth combination, and ratio. Gear flow and cadence heatmaps show how you moved across the drivetrain. The route can be colored by gear where route and gear data overlap.

Why data coverage matters

Unknown gear time means BikeNet did not receive a reliable drivetrain position for that part of the ride, often because the system was asleep or temporarily disconnected. BikeNet leaves that period unknown instead of inventing a gear.

Check coverage before drawing conclusions from gear-use percentages. Also make sure the cassette and chainring tooth counts in Bike Setup are correct, because ratio-based analysis depends on them.
